For the past few years many of us have enjoyed a weekend of camping together that included fellowship and an informal Sunday service. We have found that the campsite at Franchere Bay is the best for everyone. It has playgrounds, a beach, some fishing, power, toilets etc. For those that don't camp, it is also close enough to St. Paul, Bonnyville and Elk Point so that frequent visits are possible.
We usually choose the weekend following Canada Day which would make that July 6th to 8th, this year. We call it Family Camping rather than a family camp so that it is understood that each family comes self-contained and does not expect a formal program. (It's like Teen Camp where the whole schedule is 'Free Time' )
Under the new administration of Alberta Parks we are able to book and reserve campsites. Since we started doing this Lynn Urquhart has served us so well by booking and coordinating campsites. This year Lynn plans to visit her parents and therefore is unable to coordinate this for us.
We are looking for someone(s) who would coordinate our Family Camping Weekend. It would be best to have someone who is planning to attend the weekend and who is able to do the necessary advertising, coordination of sites with families; booking of the sites, and act as a liaison with the Park during the weekend. The coordinator has also planned a group wiener roast on the Sunday following the worship service. The service is planned and coordinated by the Elders. It has been our practice to book all the sites under the Church account and ask families to re-reimburse the Church. The cost for a power site has been about $27/night.
Lynn has agreed to work with and guide this year's coordinator. If you are interested and willing to help us for this year, please contact Pastor Jim at jim@elkpointbaptistchurch.com or 780 724-4194.
